VOIDECK Installation Process – Residential Construction
VOIDECK® is a light-weight self-supporting modular platform system installed within the void itself providing a clear working space above and below the void and unobstructed access in between levels throughout the construction process.
The installation process of this innovative fall protection system is in seamless 2 stages.
Stage 1
– First installation
Step 1: The Voideck platform is installed as soon as the void is formed, immediately eliminating the fall risk and the need for handrails.
The modular aluminium panels are supported by a unique tube and bracket system that is fixed to the framing of the upper floor within the void to be protected.
Access between levels is by way of an integral ladder and hatch panel.
Aluminium panels can be removed and replaced to allow loading in.
Voideck provides a safe and unobstructed working platform in stair voids with a certified working load of 225kg per bay (light duty) allowing the completion of:
- high level wall, roof and ceiling framing above the void including roof lights.
- installation of windows.
- high level insulation, wall and ceiling linings.
The void platform remains in place until the stairs are delivered to site, providing a seamless fall protection system for construction workers.
Step 2: The Voideck platform is then dismantled, removed and set aside allowing the completion of:
- low-level insulation and wall linings below the void
- installation of the stairs.
- Loading in to the upper level ie. wall linings and doors
Stage 2
– Reinstallation
Step 3: The Voideck platform is reinstalled approx. 2 metres below the ceiling and is self-supporting leaving a minimum of 100mm gap to all walls.
The support structure is located as far as practicable from any wall lining joints to give clear access for plastering and painting trades.
The aluminium panels are reconfigured and can be removed as required allowing full stair access.
The reinstallation of the platform allows the completion of:
- plastering and painting to high level wall and ceiling areas above the stairs
- trimming around windows and roof lights
- installation of light fittings.
Step 4: The Voideck platform is then dismantled and removed from site.
Voideck is an innovative addition to construction site safety that eliminates fall risks and allows for unobstructed access above and below the void area, maximising the efficiency of tradesmen while maintaining their safety while at work.
